Rail Simulator allows you to play the role of a railroad conductor for a day.

If you have ever wondered what it’s like to be a railroad conductor, Rail Simulator is the program that you will want to download.

This is one of the most realistic simulators on the market. You will have the opportunity to choose from historic and contemporary trains so that you can see what it’s like to conduct them all. It can give you an appreciation for driving a train and what conductors have to go through on a daily basis.

There are three modes to keep things exciting. You will be able to choose from easy, intermediate and expert. This allows you to continue using the game even as you gain expertise through continued play.

There is an “install and go” style of play that allows you to begin playing the game as soon as you make the download. You won’t need any experience to begin seeing what it’s like to drive a locomotive down the tracks. When you get into expert mode, you better know what you’re doing – otherwise you won’t even make it out of the station.

By the time you’re done playing this game, you will feel as though you’re ready to put on the conductor hat and take over a real train of your own – and you may just be able to do so if you can find a conductor that’s willing to hand over the reins for a while.

Within Rail Simulator, there is a Passenger & Freight mode that has hours of missions. It is realistic, but can become boring and tedious if you’re not completely into all things trains. A busy commuter train has a lot of demands and if you can meet them all, it is going to provide a lot of thrills for you. A free-roam mode is also available, allowing you to take a more laid back approach with the game.

This is not the game that you want when you’re looking for adventure around every turn. However, if you love trains and you want to see what it would be like to be a conductor, then you will want to give this a go. The download is going to take a while, so get started on it and then come back to it in a bit.

The graphics are intense, but then again, EA created it, so you would not expect anything less. You get the trial version and if you love everything that you see, you can upgrade to the full version to continue playing with it for extended periods of time.

Playing with trains has never been easier or more fun. It sure beats buying a train set that can take up most of your living room. You can download Rail Simulator and play with the tracks and the trains whenever the mood hits you.
